Checkerboard fly  These surf flies have transformed over the years from a bad copy of a Hasting's Surf Rat to what you see here. The first day out it landed a very nice corbina and continues to be my go-to-fly. When wet, the orange version looks like a new born perch, the halibut and leopard shark love it. Dropper Fly  Run the Checker Board surf fly up your line, tie a double surgeons knot, leaving the fly in the loop, then tie the Dropper twelve inches down the line from it and you have an un-beatable combo. It also works great by itself. A selection of surf flies is available for $3.25 a fly or $36.00 per dozen plus shipping. Fly orders can be mixed to total a twelve count.
